I am very happy to report that the past few months here at Sign Effectz, Inc. have been marked by some great internal growth and continuing education. I can’t tell you how gratifying it is to see employees grow along with the growth of the company.
Long time employees, Adrian Esguerra, Marcus Wichman, Dino Daniele all have new positions and greater responsibility.
- Adrian – Commercial Artist / Production Artist
- Marcus – CAD/CAM Operations
- Dino – Fabrication
We also added to our staff by hiring two experienced sign Installers, Roman and Wayne (the new Installer that replaces the one that we promoted). Each of them went through a collaborative training model that is conducted by our supervisors and the preceding employee.
There are distinct advantages from a business perspective on only having to train employees on processes and not having to train them INTO the industry. The sign industry, unlike many other “skilled trades” is unique in the fact that, of the skilled trade workers within the workforce, less than 2% are specifically from the sign industry. This makes it incredibly challenging to recruit or hire new employees, as the pool is very small.
Business owners know it costs money and time to onboard each new employee, they’re an investment. For us, it’s important to avoid the prolonged time associated with introducing someone to the nuances of our industry. Existing employees already have that industry knowledge. We’ve been able to allow for the capitalization of our employee’s knowledge base, ultimately making them far better contributors than you would have if starting from scratch. That’s why our experienced guys team up to train the new guys on our company procedures and policies.
Employees within the organization have added value, they are familiar with companywide policies as well as the culture. Retaining them is a high priority goal for us because it truly is a win-win. I firmly believe people inherently want to improve and grow as individuals.
We understand this very well at Sign Effectz, Inc. and have applied the philosophy for years with great payoffs and low employee turnover.
